Michael Vick has apologized for flipping the bird to Falcons' fans after the team's loss Sunday, but does it really matter? Here is the official statement on the Falcons' website:
"First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today. I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way. That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons are about. I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."
I have defended Mike Vick through all of the ups and downs, and I still think he's a great player that can help the Falcons win. He was the only one that even showed up on offense yesterday!! But, as the cliché goes, you learn about team and its players when their backs are against the wall. Well, both Mike's and the Falcons' back are slammed up against the wall, and through this simple action, we see exactly what Vick is made of. This isn't about whether he can pass the ball, which I still think he can. (Roddy White you are horrible!!!!) This is about being a leader and Mike Vick is, sadly, a long way from being a leader.
(There is a picture of the gesture here.)

WOW! Mike Vick gives a fan the finger, is it possible the fan made a racial slur? It could have been worse, like beat the fan's ass! Give me a break, yes not the best idea, two sides to every story. No I am not a Vick fan I am a Detroit Lions fan, and I do not have the time to feel sorry for anyone. I do not see Mike Vick as a thug, just a bad decision at a bad time. He said he is sorry. Enough said.

All players should be suspended and fined such as they do in NASCAR for actions like this. Terrel Owens should not have been allowed th play ball for at least one year and fined $50,000.00 . Vick should be supended at least one game and fined also.

Give the guy a break, sheesh. Sure, what Vick did was wrong, but he didn't kill anyone, attack their race or religion. If you have ever played sports, you can imagine the frustration he felt. He apologized, let it go.

Such a nice role model for our youth, no wonder we have kids and parents attacking other players and officials. See it on Sunday do it on Monday.Another example of the THUG atmosphire in PRO-fessional basketball and football. I guess the word PRO means only the talent level, not your demeaner. I'd guess he couldn't let is little brother out do him in the PRO-JERK category. Until professional sports takes care of these antics and the Vicks, Owens, and these other BABIES and FAIR WEATHER STARS professional sports will suffer. But no one will do a thing, big business owns the professional sports everyone have sold out to the all mighty dollar, and this is what we get,a show, an apperance, and entertainment episode instead of a SPORT, a GAME, A game most normal people can only dream of, and kids use to love. Do you even see kids out in the parks and yards playing the GAME, no you see the video games PRAISING THESE OVER GROWN, SPOILED, BABIES DOING THEIR DANCES, AND MAKING A JOKE of the game. Whats the deal with all the stompng and dancing, and trash when YOUR TEAM is getting beat 30-0. Talk about TEAM, very few ever knew the meaning of the team concept much less care about their fellow team mates. Well enough for this week, I'm sure M. Vick will visit a hospital or soup kitch this week, and all will be forgiven

I think it is harsh to say Mike Vick is a long way from being a leader. He is just human and he faltered. I challenge you to name one "leader", who has never faltered or made an impulsive mistake. We should not be so quick to dismiss anyones leadership abilities because they made a mistake.

Being an alumni of VT and having the fortune (or not) of also being a "Vick" (no relation), I have been watching and following Michael throughout the years. Most new that making the transition to the NFL would be a difficult one for him as his style and athleticism is literally one of a kind. God blessed Michael with a superhuman skill set. After several years in the pros however, you would have expected more, for he has the potential to be the proverbial "Tiger Woods" of football. His recent actions (like all the antics of brother Marcus while @ VT), make you wonder how smart this guy really is. Apologies are fine and well intended, but it will never excuse his childlike behavior, or his responsibility to be the leader the Falcons need. The time may have come for Michael and the coaching staff to decide if this is a good fit for the organization. Michael, I wish you the best my man, but it’s time to grow up.

It looks like the Security Guard / Rent-a-Cop in the picture is a little puzzled. "What am I supposed to do or say?" Wonder if a fan had been been up close and personal like that what kind of treatment they would have recieved. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Anyway Vick is classless - he gave us the proof.

Perhaps Mike Vick just can't deal with the fact that despite all the talent, he is not a winning quarterback...and never will be...Jim Mora Sr got it right and instead of answering with an inspired win over New Orleans, Mike Vick did what he always does...fails to lead his team to a critical victory...I'm a Chargers fan and I'm sure glad they didn't give in to Mike Vick's $$$ demands then...He is only proving what we knew then...He's not going anywhere...fast...

Read the apology again. Then ask yourself, "Does the Falcon front office really think everybody else is stupid? Michael Vick no more wrote that apology than the sun will rise in the west tomorrow. He read was he was told to read. What's the point? The point is no one in the various major sporting arenas is really held accountable anymore for their actions. So what if some player gets a $25,000 fine. Big deal when you make $10,000,000 a year, plus endorsements. What does the overpaid, overhyped, overpampered athlete care? Not one thing. "Just give me the damn thing and I'll read it!!!" We have no one to blame but ourselves...we keep buying the tickets, folks.

WELL THE NEW ORLEANS PLAYERS IN THE PAST SURE WOULD HAVE HAD A REASON TO DO THE SAME THING, BUT THEY DID'NT. MICHAEL VICK IS SUCH A TALENTED PLAYER AND HAS A LOT OF GOOD DAYS AHEAD, BUT I GUESS IGNORANCE RUNS IN THEIR FAMILY. THAT IS WHY WE GOT RID OF HIS COUSIN AARON BROOKS. HE WOULD STAND THERE AND SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR EVERYTIME HE MADE A MISTAKE,

Look at the difference - a black football player can flip off PAYING fans and its okay - but a white comedian goes off with offensive words and gets blasted.
Common curtesy to paying fans should go both ways -
I think it is disgusting for a player with such a HIGH salary to flip off his fans and he should be fined! What if he flipped off a referee?

Many say "Are you suprised at this gentlemans response and his behavior"...
As a parent of a Teenager, who likes to not only play football, Also looks to the players as Role Models.
We teach our children to be Respectful, yet when they see men behave with this kind of calibur - we tell our children not to do like they do, but yes you can watch the game, because He is not the only player on the team. It has become disgraceful to hear and watch the players actions, language which is often times very filthy - yes as one other person said "What do you expect", when the players or anyone in general is not Repremanded for their actions. We say it is okay to act this way, we won't hold any one person responsible or accountable for their behavior. From a parent whose teenage son likes Football.

Micharl Vick notwithstanding,no running quarterback has ever won consistantly in this league. You can call it exciting if you like, but it isn't winning. Atlanta will never be a winner with Vick.

Okay, he shouldn't have done that, however I don't blame him for losing his cool. The "fans" are blaming him for something that is mostly NOT HIS fault. I'm sure the reason he runs the ball when he can is because when he throws it, it's put right into his receivers hands- and is dropped! After being blamed for something out of his control over and over again, I'd lose my cool too. I think some people need to spend a lot more time in front of the ball passing machine...

I am just ashamed at our team thanks to Vick. I think his apology was filled with excuses. I have supported our team for 10 years. After this?
Not so sure...
If he is not punished....then The Falcons will lose this fan.
