During last night's Giants-Redskins game the booth mic picked up more than just Bryant Gumbel's highbrow insights and Chris Collinsworth's sententious wisdom: we also got a couple of guys burping in the booth. I think. Or maybe not. Well, you decide. Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Irrelevant, we have the play-by-play:
The first startling belch occurred during a pause in the commentary, and it was unclear whether it emanated from the pie hole of Gumbel or his babbling boothmate, Cris Collinsworth. But then the second one burst forth with great clarity while Collinsworth was droning on, and a mark was made.Hmm. It sounds like we have a "He who smelt it dealt it" situation on our hands. Maybe Gumbel isn't quite as highbrow as he wants us to think. (Collinsworth definitely isn't as sententious, but we already knew that.)
Update: With 6 minutes left in the fourth the following exchange occurred ...
Gumbel: Let me just make note that we do not have indigestion up here. We had a mike open somewhere. We heard a couple of noises that were not of our doing, shall we say.
Collinsworth: Thank you. I was wondering if those ribs impacted a little more than I knew.
Gumbel: Either that or I'm a great ventriloquist.
Hilarious! Ventriloquist? That doesn't even make sense! I still think it was Gumbel.
But wait, there's more! ProFootballTalk.com has the audio proof. Here's the first alleged burp. And here's the second. Um, yeah, somebody let one rip.

Colinsworth and Gumbel are even worse than Dennis Miller ever was. The telecast of the Browns - Steelers Thursday nite game was terrible, they should be fired!!!! I hope they are not doing the Ohio State Florida game on the 8th.
